World Refugees School is a US-based non-profit that offers the world’s first and only formally accredited K-12 education program for the global Refugee Community. To date, this .ORG educates more than 6,000 refugee children in one of the world’s most dangerous, politically complex regions in the world. In 2020, they expect to expand that reach to more than 100,000 children in the MENA (Middle East North Africa) region.

Studio 89

The winner for the 2019 .ORG Impact Awards Outstanding Volunteer goes to Zehra Abbas, co-founder and President of Studio.89, who created a space for grassroots initiatives to thrive, works tirelessly to build partnerships with over 80 organizations, and manages a network of over 300 volunteers to impact over 45,000 lives in the Toronto area. Through numerous events and programs, this individual helps refugees, under served youth, domestic violence survivors and those with disabilities.

BEST INTEGRATED COMMUNICATIONS CAMPAIGN

WINNER

Skateistan

With its “Empowering Children Through Skateboarding and Education” campaign, Skateistan leveraged a blog article series called “Skater Girls: Dreaming Big”, a video that highlighted the first Afghan girl to land a kickflip, and multiple social channels to generate more than 7,500 likes, an additional 1,000 Instagram followers, and a 52% increase in donations on International Women’s Day.

OUTSTANDING ONLINE FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Teach for America

Teach for America’s winning campaign, “Teach for America Alumni and Staff Challenge,” featured a donation match that doubled the impact of alumni donations, as well as an internal awards program that rewarded regional development teams for meeting and exceeding specific participation goals. The campaign was wildly successful, increasing alumni participation by 13% and generating $2.5 million in funds.

BEST USE OF PARTNERSHIPS/CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENTS

Kiva

This year’s award winner for Best Use of Partnerships/Celebrity Endorsements partnered with PayPal to unlock funding for global entrepreneurs who otherwise wouldn’t have access to affordable capital through an innovative cause-marketing campaign called “The Big Impact of Small Loans” that ran through October 2018. The campaign incorporated a credit offer to customers and reached more than 60 million PayPal customers globally.

.ORG COMMUNITY GROUP OF THE YEAR

Community Focus Group

The 2019 .ORG Impact Award for the category .ORG Community Group of the Year goes to Community Focus Group. Based in Kenya, Community Focus Group helps the community raise funds for mentoring programs that help teenage mothers. The organization also develops programs that assist with school fees for HIV Orphans and other vulnerable children in the Kayole community in Nairobi, Kenya.

The City Mission

City Mission truly showcased how they used #GivingTuesday  to power their mission forward. This .ORG has provided care and recovery services to the homeless in Cleveland and aims to help restore those in need back to independent living. This .ORG – through an impressive #GivingTuesdayCampaign – successfully funded Laura’s Home, a refuge for women and children.

The Mayhew Program

Mayhew’s award-winning social media campaign, Home is Where Their Dog Is, generated awareness regarding the important part dogs play in the lives of those who are homeless. By sharing real-life stories from some of their clients, this .ORG was able to present the public with new information showing the bonds that dogs have with their humans, increase the brand’s social reach, push past the KPI goals that were set, and drive more people in the community that they serve to have more compassion for these loving (& so cute!) animals.

Dollars for Tic Scholars

This award-winning leader – Diane Diamantis from Kelsey B Diamantis TS Scholarship Family Foundation/ Dollars for Tic Scholars – displayed a relentless commitment to encouraging students with Tourette’s Syndrome to attend college, providing these hopeful scholars with opportunities to pursue their futures and transform their lives.

Bags of Taste

The winner of this year’s Innovator Award goes to Alicia Weston from Bags of Taste, a community-based not-for-profit .ORG that helps disadvantaged people climb out of food poverty. Under Alicia’s direction, the .ORG implemented an innovative 4-stage behavior change program designed to help people cook healthy, homemade food from scratch while on a budget.

The winner of the Outstanding Website Redesign noticed the success of their redesign when they realized there was a “dramatic decrease in the number of people who use our contact form simply to ask us for help finding something on our site.” Post launch of the new website, the team was able to focus more on increasing resources and outreach to assist the community.

This first annual program celebrates .ORG domain name users of all kinds and causes for their accomplishments in community mobilization, marketing and outreach, and mission achievement.

Award categories

.ORG Impact Awards are available in three major categories, covering the widest range of .ORGs possible.


The Individual Award Category recognizes the personal contribution of one person in support of their organization (which must use a .ORG domain) or to the broader community and/or mission under which the organization operates. Achievement will be honored in the following award categories:

  1. Innovator Award
  2. Rising Star Award
  3. Outstanding Volunteer 

Registrants of the .ORG domain transcend the traditional nonprofit world, and include for-profit organizations and community groups as well. The Sector Award Category will recognize one outstanding organization within these three sectors:

  1. .ORG Nonprofit of the Year .
  2. .ORG Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program of the Year
  3. .ORG Community Group of the Year 

There are many strategies that organization can deploy to achieve philanthropic, marketing and business goals. The Initiative Award Category will recognize .ORGs, unless otherwise stated, for various programmatic initiatives that support broader organizational goals, with a focus on online-based initiatives:

The .ORG Impact Awards is a global awards program to recognize and celebrate individuals and organizations that have a connection to a registered .ORG domain for their contributions, achievements and impact they have made in their communities.

The .ORG Impact Awards is open only to individuals who are at least 18 years old and have permission to nominate the individual or entity that uses or has a connection to .ORG domain. Unfortunately, employees of Public Interest Registry and any of its parent and affiliate companies, as well as the immediate family and household members of each such employee are not eligible to nominate individuals or entities, or be considered as a nominee for any award. For more on eligibility please see the official rules for more details.

The .ORG Impact Awards is a global program subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and is void where prohibited. For more on eligibility per country, please see Section 1 of the official rules for more details.

There is not an official limit to the number of entries and a nominator may submit nominations for all categories; however, each submission must be unique. The sponsor reserves the right to modify the award category selected as necessary if it believes that the content of the nomination fits better in a different award category. 

Activities highlighted in your submission must have occurred between June 1, 2018 and June 1, 2019.  If an activity began before June 1, 2018 or extends beyond June 1, 2019, it will be eligible so long as some meaningful actions occurred between the two dates. 

Yes; written responses are required for each award category. There is a 500-word limit for each question. 

Yes; nominations may be featured in various .ORG digital platforms throughout the year, including articles, videos, social posts, and more. Please see official rules for more details on the use of submissions and publicity.

After the end of the nomination period, a panel of qualified judges determined by the sponsor will score each submission against the judging criteria outlined in the program’s official rules. Based on the award categories there is a slightly different set of criteria for Individual and Sector awards versus Initiative awards. Please see Section 7 of the official rules for more details on the judging criteria.

Winners will be announced at The .ORG Impact Awards Ceremony at The Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. on October 10, 2019.  

Winners will receive a custom award and the ability to select a non-profit or NGO organization of their choice to receive up to a $5,000 contribution (depending on the award category). Nonprofit entrants are welcome to select their own nonprofit as the beneficiary of that donation. Individuals, for-profits and community groups are welcome to select any nonprofit they believe in to receive the donation.

  • Individual Category Winners – $5,000
  • Sector Category Winners – $2,000
  • Initiative Category Winners – $1,000

 

More importantly, we hope recognition through The .ORG Impact Awards will help raise the profile of your .ORG and provide additional validation to your programs. Additionally, winners will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend the celebratory event in Washington, D.C. to receive the award and network with industry leaders;
  • Use a dedicated .ORG Impact Awards logo mark in promotional materials;
  • Be featured in various .ORG digital platforms throughout the year, including articles, videos, social posts, and more.

The .ORG Impact Awards Ceremony will be held at the historic Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. on October 10, 2019. The Awards Ceremony will include networking, dinner and entertainment. 

Each finalist in the “Individual” categories is eligible to receive an additional travel stipend to attend the Awards Ceremony. Please see official rules for more details.

The .ORG Impact Awards Ceremony is an invitation-only event. All finalists will receive two complimentary invitations to the Awards Ceremony on or around August 15, 2019.
